The lowdown on stretching – Why, When, and How

When observing people at the gym I noticed that many will not stretch after they are done exercising. I recently participated in a tennis clinic, and the instructor was extremely eloquent about the proper tennis techniques, but never once mentioned the importance of stretching after the tennis session. So I think it will be helpful to set the record streight and explain why stretching should not be an afterthought, but a part of any exercise routine.

Why stretch

According to the Mayo Clinic, stretching may help you improve flexibility, which in turn improves your athletic performance and decreases your risk of exercise-related injury. Read the rest of this entry »
